I am Neil McLean – a freelance frontend web developer based in Manchester, UK. I pride myself on delivering bespoke websites and applications crafted to the highest standards with a focus on efficiency, usability and accessibility. I have a strong eye for detail and enjoy collaborating with designers to deliver pixel-perfect implementations of creative and engaging websites and apps.
I have been building websites since the late 90s and after obtaining a degree in Computer Studies I became a professional web developer in 2001. Working in various agencies, I have worked on countless projects from humble microsites to global, multi-lingual content managed systems.
In 2011 I set up Ayelike so I could work on a freelance basis with some of the top digital and full-service agencies in the north-west. This opportunity has allowed me to focus on digital development and gain experience of different development processes and techniques in a shorter space of time.
With a background in both frontend and backend, my focus is now towards frontend with my core skills including HTML5, CSS3/SASS and JavaScript/ES6. I have experience with many JavaScript frameworks such as React, React Native, Angular, Handlebars and JQuery. I have experience using the Grunt, Gulp and Webpack task runners as well as experience building applications packaged in PhoneGap and Expo.
As well as working on web and app projects, I have also been involved in style guide and prototyping work with many of my clients.
I am proud to have worked with some of the best full-service agencies and digital specialists in the region. I use the experience and knowledge gained from working in such a wide variety of companies to quickly fit in to new teams and hit the ground running.
